Trail runner injured: Mountain rescue deployed at Petergupf

The Schrott crossing leads from Petergupf over the Hohe Schrott to Bad Ischl.

The mountaineer from Pinsdorf set off from Ebensee towards Petergupf on Sunday morning with a 31-year-old from Laakirchen. The duo had planned to cross the Hohe Schrott to Bad Ischl. But they didn’t get that far: a good 200 metres below the 1647-metre-high Petergupf – the first summit of the tour – the 28-year-old twisted his ankle while running downhill.

Despite severe pain in his left ankle, he managed to descend to the Brombergalm with the help of his mountain companion. But there was no way he could continue from there: at around 9:20 a.m. the men made an emergency call. Six members of the Ebensee mountain rescue team brought the injured man safely towards the valley, where he was cared for by paramedics and then taken to the hospital in Bad Ischl.

Several missions for mountain rescuers

It was not the only mountain rescue operation in the Salzkammergut on Sunday: At Attersee, three men had to be rescued from a steep wall at the foot of the Mahdlgupf after they had missed the entrance to the via ferrata and had climbed so far that they did not dare to go any further. In Gschwandt (Gmunden district), a woman fell off her e-bike and had to be taken to a helipad on a stretcher.
