The US president announced that he is withdrawing from the election and will support the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris.

He United States’s president, Joe Bidenannounced this Sunday that he is withdrawing his candidacy for reelection amid speculation within the Democratic Party and of the American people themselves about his suitability as a candidate against his adversary, the former Republican president Donald Trumpwho is the favorite in the polls after suffering on July 13.

According to CNN, Biden made his decision to decline his candidacy in the last 48 hours, after consulting with his family and closest associates, according to a senior campaign advisor to the American president.

These conversations were held by telephone, since Biden is recovering from Covid-19 at his beach house in Rehoboth (Delaware) after being diagnosed in recent days, so he could not meet personally with his main campaign advisers, nor with those of the White House.

The senior advisor consulted by the American network said that the president was not “entrenched” in his home, but was studying all his possibilities, and came to the conclusion that it would end up weighing on the presidential formula and proving to be a distraction when it came to achieving the Democratic goal: defeating Donald Trump.

“I want to offer my full support and backing for Kamala to be our party’s candidate this year”

Through his X account (formerly Twitter), Biden publicly communicated his full support for the US Vice President Kamala Harris take his place in the electoral race.

“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Democrats: it’s time to unite and defeat Trump. Let’s do it,” he said.

“There is nothing America can’t do when we do it together,” Biden said at the end of the letter, adding: “We just have to remember that we are the United States of America.”
