A 45-year-old forestry worker was hit on the unprotected head by a tree while doing wood work at around 9 a.m. and was trapped. The man’s colleagues immediately alerted the emergency services. However, an emergency doctor could only confirm the Romanian’s death, the Styrian State Police Directorate reported in the late afternoon.

A 49-year-old colleague of the man had recently felled a tree outside the 45-year-old’s field of vision. The police are now investigating the 49-year-old Serb on suspicion of negligent homicide. According to the police, the Romanian was probably not wearing a helmet while working.

41-year-old died in Tyrol

A tragic accident also occurred in Tyrol: A 41-year-old man was fatally injured on Tuesday morning while working on forestry in Achenkirch (Schwaz district). He had previously cut a wedge out of a tree trunk.

His 59-year-old work colleague suddenly noticed that the injured man was lying on his back, trapped under a tree trunk. The forestry worker managed to free the 41-year-old and set the rescue chain in motion, the police reported. The 59-year-old tried to resuscitate his colleague. However, he died at the scene of the accident.
