According to the latest report of the National Meat Institute (INAC)local meat consumption between January and May increased by 10%, with national meat having the greatest impact on the market.

According to the director of Frigorífico Saturno, Luis Avero, This is due to the price factor. “The values that we had in the first stage of the year were not so good, so the proportion of national meat increased a little, and today we see the opposite,” Avero explained to Radio Carve.
Imported meat and the possibilities with Argentina
Meanwhile, regarding the impact of imported meat on the Uruguay, The director of the refrigerator assured that the Brazilian product has more and more impact. “The Brazilian meat is beginning to have more presence in the Uruguayan market,” he noted.
On the other hand, he commented that there are possibilities of importing meat from Argentina But there are some logistical difficulties. “We have the problem that the roast would have to be brought in fresh, and the number of days from the time it is shipped until it arrives at the plant, we see a significant risk in the number of days,” Avero commented.
Brands are increasingly in demand
The manager of the meat factory stressed that the phenomenon of meat brands is becoming more and more popular in the country. “Before, you didn’t see advertising for meat brands, and today you’re starting to see that meat has a brand, unlike before when it was a general commodity,” he commented.
“The market is increasingly accepting it, and although it is for a certain segment of the population, it is something that is here to stay,” he added.
Regarding his company’s brand, Avero stressed that heifers are the most in demand. “We are having a hard time getting the volume we were used to selling, with a very firm price, but that is welcome for the producer,” he said.
