The Linz professional fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigade were alerted at around 4 p.m.: A fire had broken out on the grounds of the state’s main shooting range in the south of Linz for reasons that are still unknown. The cloud of smoke could already be seen from a distance. When the fire brigade arrived with around 60 men and 13 vehicles, the roof structure of the facility was already fully ablaze.
Difficult extinguishing work
The fire-fighting work proved difficult and took several hours. The fire was extinguished using several pipes and a turntable ladder, according to the emergency services. Due to the heavy smoke, the fire service is wearing breathing apparatus. The metal roof structure then had to be removed using a truck crane so that the last embers could be removed.
