A trip on two wheels is more than just getting from one place to another. Cycling is also an environmentally friendly leisure activity that keeps you fit. This also applies to people with disabilities. That’s why the team at the Lebenshilfe residential home in Freistadt looked for an electric tandem bike for its 21 residents. “An e-bike gives people with disabilities a certain degree of mobility and outdoor exercise,” says Lebenshilfe residential home manager Helmut Riedrich.
Donations in kind and money sought
In the Lebenshilfe OÖ residential building in Freistadt, 21 people aged between 50 and 73 live in three residential groups. While the operation of Lebenshilfe OÖ is financed by the state of Upper Austria, donations are needed for equipment for sports and leisure activities, as well as lifting aids and special wheelchairs. The new e-bike is no exception. Around 5,000 euros are still needed to finance it. Donations are also still being sought for the construction of a suitable covered and lockable shelter for the electric tandem bike. “We are happy about any financial support. Companies that want to help us with building materials or their labor during the construction work are also a valuable help to us,” says residential building manager Riedrich.
