For unknown reasons, the woman had crossed into the oncoming lane on the Felbertauernstrasse and collided with the car of a 53-year-old Dutch woman. The Austrian woman’s car landed in a meadow. She was flown to Lienz Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 83-year-old was trapped in her vehicle and was freed by the fire department. The Dutch woman and a 63-year-old passenger, also from the Netherlands, were only slightly injured. They were able to leave the hospital after outpatient treatment, the police said. The Felbertauernstrasse was completely closed for the duration of the clean-up work. Six police officers, a total of 24 firefighters including four vehicles, three rescue vehicles, an emergency vehicle and a rescue helicopter were on duty.
