The couple planned to hike to an inn with three friends. While the woman and her friends turned back before reaching the inn due to knee pain, the 73-year-old continued the hike. For the return journey in the afternoon, however, he chose not an asphalt road as he had on the way there, but a forest path that led into impassable terrain.

The search for the 73-year-old began at around 7 p.m., was called off after midnight and continued on Saturday morning. The man’s body was finally discovered in the morning and recovered by rope using a helicopter. 45 people were involved in the operation.
