About 60% of the surveyed residents of Germany support the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. This is evidenced by the results of a survey by the Infratest dimap institute for the ARD TV channel, published on January 6.

“The majority of Germans (60%) want to keep the scandalous Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

It is noted that the project finds the greatest approval among the followers of the right-wing party “Alternative for Germany”. There, 86% of the respondents supported the gas pipeline.

At the same time, for the most part, supporters of the Greens have a negative attitude towards the gas pipeline.

In addition, in the east of Germany, 70% of survey participants are in favor of the project, in the western part of the country – 57%.

Earlier on Thursday, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder said that the position of German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock on Nord Stream 2 is naive. According to him, the policies of the new German federal government threaten the country’s energy security. Söder believes that the “green” threat of not using the pipeline damages, first of all, the FRG itself.

On December 24, the Das Erste TV channel admitted that the issue of putting Nord Stream 2 into operation could split the coalition that formed the new German government. It was noted that there are disputes between the Greens, who oppose the SP-2, and the Social Democratic Party, which supports the project.

Later, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that Nord Stream 2 plays a geostrategic role. At the same time, she stressed that for her SP-2 is more than just a private economic project, as the new German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, called it earlier.

The construction of SP-2 was completed on September 10. It was built from Russia to Germany along the Baltic seabed with the aim of direct gas supplies to Europe. The EU countries mainly support the project and participate in its implementation. The Baltic states, Poland, the United States and Ukraine are opposed.

On November 16, the German regulator suspended the certification of Nord Stream 2 AG as an independent operator of SP-2. The procedure can be continued when a subsidiary company for the German part of the pipeline is created in Germany.
