Francisco Kimila from Tanzania only had one healthy leg from birth, both of his arms are deformed. At the beginning of the year, the 24-year-old nicknamed “Biko” had a prosthetic leg fitted at the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Clinic in Kirchdorf and was able to walk for the first time in his life. “I have rarely seen so much happiness in a person’s eyes,” said orthopedic surgeon Thomas Pauzenberger at a press conference with State Health Minister Christina Haberlander in Linz.
The senior doctor in Kirchdorf recently received new photos showing “Biko” walking to his home village. The 24-year-old is now starting to study journalism. “It is of course a great joy for us in the hospital to see that the young man is doing well. And that, thanks to the help of everyone involved, he can now lead an independent life.”
