“Fuzzy” retires: “Steiner’s Gasthof” in Haag closes

From the end of September, the house on Lambacher Straße will be empty.
Last year, the Chamber of Commerce honored Monika and Friedrich Steiner.

“Steiner’s Gasthof” is also known far beyond the district borders of Grieskirchen – in Haag am Hausruck itself and the surrounding communities, however, people go “to Fuzzy”. The nickname of the owner and operator Friedrich Steiner has stood for excellent cuisine and honest hospitality for 36 years. Several TV shows have made the house known throughout the state.

In September, a gastronomic era will come to an end: Steiner and his wife Monika will retire and close the traditional establishment. His heart is bleeding, says the full-blooded restaurateur: “But whether we close now or next year – it’s always stupid for the people.” He wants to quit while things are going well, says Steiner: “A skier should end his career at the peak and not when he ends up in the lower places.”

Meeting point for young and old

Business is still going well, says Steiner: “We are well utilized and have enough staff, which is no longer a given.” But he has also noticed that finding employees is becoming increasingly difficult: “We are still finding motivated people, but unfortunately the number of young talent is falling short.” The mood in an inn depends on good service: “If guests have to wait too long, they are no longer satisfied. We didn’t want to put ourselves through that anymore, after all, we have a good reputation. People should remember good food and good service.”
