The OAS described the electoral results in Venezuela as an aberrant manipulation

The Organization of American States (OAS) denounced this Tuesday that the presidential elections on Sunday in Venezuela, in which the president was declared the winner Nicolas Madurosuffered “the most aberrant manipulation,” in a statement from the office of its secretary general, Luis Almagro.

“Throughout this electoral process, the Venezuelan regime has been applying its repressive scheme, complemented by actions aimed at completely distorting the election result, making this result open to the most aberrant manipulation,” the text states.

Almagro’s office said that the fact that the opposition presented the records and the government did not “would be laughable and pathetic if it were not tragic.” “In this context, it is imperative to know about Maduro’s acceptance of the records held by the opposition,” as well as his acceptance of “his electoral defeat,” the statement said.

“Failure to do so would require new elections, but in this case with the electoral observation missions of the European Union and the OAS present and a new CNE “so that the margin of institutional irregularity that plagued this process is reduced,” he added.

On the other hand, the Permanent Council of the OAS called for an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday to “address the results of the electoral process” in Venezuela.

Uruguayan diplomats outside

This Monday the government of Venezuela decided to withdraw all diplomatic personnel from about seven countries in the region, including Uruguayafter considering that these nations did not recognize the results of last Sunday’s elections.

In this way, the Bolivarian government decided to withdraw its diplomatic delegations from Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay.

The Maduro government also demanded that these governments “immediately withdraw their representatives” from Venezuelan territory, amid a climate of escalating diplomatic tensions with countries in the region.

However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it will continue to exert pressure on the Bolivarian country despite the decision to withdraw the diplomats.

“Uruguay will continue to demand in the appropriate areas a transparent scrutinyaudited and arbitrated internationally, which reliably reflects the will of the Venezuelan people who this Sunday, July 28, expressed themselves in a massive and peaceful manner at the polls to democratically elect their authorities,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.

“This is an unjustified and disproportionate measure that responds untimely to the legitimate concern expressed by our country and the international community regarding the irregularities and lack of transparency observed in the electoral process,” the Executive said.

The Foreign Ministry also stressed that the measure imposed by Venezuela affects the more than 33,000 Venezuelans living in Uruguay, according to the latest census. “It leaves them in a situation of lack of protection and cuts the link with their country for the thousands of Venezuelans who have had to leave their land in recent years, and who found their permanent place of residence in Uruguay,” it said.
