According to initial information, spray cans exploded in a garage shortly before 7 a.m. The garage also contained several firefighting items from a specialist pyrotechnics store. The force of the explosion shattered several window panes, slightly injuring the five residents of the house. The people were taken to hospitals in Linz and Wels.

“The fire then spread from the garage to the house, the roof structure caught fire,” says district fire chief Hubert Straßer. The roof had to be opened for the follow-up inspection because there were still embers there. The garage extension has now been completely extinguished and the fire has been declared “out”. A total of seven fire departments were deployed.

Special caution for firefighters

When the fire brigade arrived, there were still small explosions. The house owner also warned the emergency services. “But if you’re from the area, you know what was stored there,” says Straßer. The house owner is a pyrotechnician and had stored numerous fireworks in the garage. Of course, the firefighters have to be particularly careful with such objects.

The garage section burned down completely, and the house was badly damaged on two sides, says Straßer. It has yet to be decided whether it is considered habitable. Police and fire investigators are currently on site to determine the cause of the fire.
