The first month of the campaign after the primaries was marked by several peculiarities: on the one hand, the successive scandals in the National Party which forced the person who is seen as the successor of Luis Lacalle Pou —in the party and in the government—, Alvaro Delgado, to focus efforts on consolidating its leadership; and, on the other hand, the emergence of Andres Ojeda as a candidate who not only seeks to lead the Colorado Party, but also the coalition. In this context, several differences also arose between the various spaces that today make up the government, even though, on other issues, they seek to project unity.

Town meeting He has his quirks, and that is something that is not only known in the government but has already been proven on multiple occasions. Despite being part of the governing coalition, he has always made it clear that he has differences with his partners —eventual ones?—; and in the face of the recent scandals, this need to distance himself has deepened even further.

“I think that sometimes there is an intention to put us all in the same bag,” said the leader of Open Town Hall, Guido Manini Rios, in that sense. “We have very important common values, but also huge differences,” he insisted in an interview with Telemundo, along with his recently confirmed running mate, Lorena Quintana.

One of the most recent situations of internal conflict has been, on the one hand, the incorporation of article 72 in the Media law —which found opposition in the Colorado Party—; but also the conviction for corruption of the former mayor of Artigas, Pablo Caram, which “affects the entire political system.”

The political agendas Their own, likewise, have been a differential constantly pointed out by the councillors, who maintain that their proposals “point to the real problems of the people.”

“We are a party that says what needs to be said, we do not remain silent. The debate is just beginning now. Campaign”, Manini Ríos said in this regard, and pointed out that “the coordination mechanisms (in the coalition) should be oiled and friction avoided.”

Ojeda insists on multi-colour unity

Almost standing on the opposite sidewalk – and with his own way of distancing himself from the other candidates of the coalition -, Andres Ojeda He insisted on the need for the official candidates to be more united than ever, and announced that he will propose having a “joint strategy” in the face of the decision of Yamandú Orsi not to participate in events where you are outnumbered.

“We are strong if we are together,” said the Colorado presidential candidate in a conference after a meeting with the board of directors Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU)at the same time of the event from which he would have been “disinvited” at the request of the candidate of the Broad Front. For this reason, he said that “it is important that the four candidates of the coalition agree on a joint strategy regarding participation in these events.”

“If everyone is invited and makes an autonomous decision, I think that there, divided, we give a position of power to the Broad Front,” he continued, and concluded: “I would like perhaps in these days to talk with my colleagues to have a joint position about”.
