The unemployment rate fell for the second consecutive month in June and stood at 8.1% nationwide, after reaching its annual peak in March and April, when it reached 9%.

The data comes from the latest “Activity, Employment and Unemployment” report prepared by the Statistics National Institute (INE), which also showed a monthly decrease in the activity rate, from 63.9% to 63.8%, and an increase in the employment rate, from 58.5% to 58.6%.


Throughout the country, the number of active workers is more than 1.87 million people, of which more than 1.72 million are employed and nearly 152,700 are unemployed.
In the breakdown by territory, the unemployment rate is again lower in Montevideo (7.7%) that in the inside of the country, where it is 8.5%. This trend is replicated in the activity rate (64.7% versus 63.3%) and in the employment rate (59.7% versus 57.9%).
To May, Paysandú It was the department most affected by the unemployment problem, as occurred in April, with an unemployment rate of 13.4%.

Underemployment and absent employed persons
In another order, it is estimated that 9% of Uruguayans who are employed are underemployed, while no registration with social security for main work stood at 21.7%.
