In the United States, three men were sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a black man

Judge Timothy Walmsley sentenced three men, William Brian, Gregory McMichael and Travis McMichael, to life in prison on January 7 for the murder of African American Ahmad Arbury. This was reported on January 7 by the CNN television company.

According to the investigation, in early 2020, former police officer Travis Mikemichael shot 25-year-old Arbury while jogging in the neighborhood near Brunswick, Georgia (USA). His father Gregory watched the shooting from the back of a pickup truck, and their neighbor Brian filmed the death of a black man.

According to investigators, McMichael’s son and father, as well as their friend Brian, chased an African-American jogging, thinking that he had stolen something from their barn. However, the video surveillance records presented in the court did not confirm that Arbury took any things from the building, although he appeared next to it several times.

The defense of the accused insisted that they tried to carry out a civil arrest, including with the use of a weapon, since they believed that he was committing a crime. According to the convicts’ lawyers, Arbury resisted, which led to the shooting.

As noted by CNN, the jury found the men guilty on charges of murder, aggravated assault, wrongful imprisonment and attempted felony in November last year. On Friday, the judge delivered the final verdict.

Earlier, on December 23, a US jury found guilty of negligent murder of ex-Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter, who shot a black man Dante Wright in April. She faces punishment in the form of 15 years in prison and a fine of $ 30 thousand under the first paragraph, as well as 10 years in prison and a $ 20 thousand fine under the second.

A young African American died on April 12 in the city of Minneapolis while trying to arrest him for a traffic violation. Police Officer Kim Potter confused an electroshock device with a firearm. As a result of the shots, the man died.
