Ipsos poll shows Macron’s chances of being re-elected as president

French President Emmanuel Macron maintains a high chance of being re-elected to a second term in the April 2022 presidential election. This is evidenced by the results of a survey by the sociological service Ipsos, published on Friday, January 7th.

A study carried out three months before the elections confirms that the incumbent head of state can count on 26% of the votes in the first round. At the same time, 68% of those who voted for him in the 2017 elections intend to support his re-election for a second term.

His support is also supported by 30% of those who voted five years ago for ex-French Prime Minister Francois Fillon.

It is noted that Macron has not yet officially nominated his candidacy.

The current leader’s closest rival is Marine Le Pen, a candidate from the National Rally Party. 17% of voters intend to vote for it.

The third place is taken by the candidate from the “Republicans” party Valerie Pekress, she claims 16% of the vote. The fourth place in the first round, according to the Ipsos forecast, will be taken by the far-right politician Erik Zemmour.

The leader of the “Unruly France” party, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, as shown by research, can count on the votes of 9% of respondents. 8% of the votes are claimed by a candidate from the Europe. Ecology – Greens ”Yannick Jadot. The rest got less than 5% of the respondents’ sympathy.

In any case, the second round remains with Macron, sociologists say.

The poll, conducted from 5 to 6 January, involved 1,500 French adults.

Earlier, on January 5, the French President expressed his desire to again participate in the presidential elections in the country. According to him, at the moment the situation with the coronavirus pandemic is a priority issue for him as the President of France, therefore, he has not officially nominated himself for a second term.

The presidential elections for the Fifth Republic will be held in the spring of 2022: the first round is scheduled for April 10, the second – on the 24th.
