The Secretary General of the National Drug Board (JND), Daniel Radioproposed to study the regulation of the sale of psychedelic substances and conduct research into its use for therapeutic purposes, in line with the analyses being carried out on this subject in countries such as Australia either USAas well as by some countries of the European Union.

This Monday, the Secretary of State said in an interview on Channel 10 that “we must begin to study the issue of psychedelic substances, initially for therapeutic use.” “It is already being studied in the world without presumptions, (because) it seems that one says that and wants to kick the board, no, it is the natural evolution,” he reflected.

Radío understands that the solutions against organized crime of drug trafficking do not lie in a “witch hunt” and a “return to the Middle Ages”, but in “thinking” about the development of a drug policy in the current global context.

“We need to study psychedelic substances, they are being studied for the treatment of depression and for the treatment of some addictions,” he stressed.

“Today in Uruguay, about 3 tons of cannabis are sold per year in pharmacies”

On the other hand, Radio commented that in the Uruguay “about 3 tons of are sold cannabis per year in pharmacies”, to this must be added “what is given to members of (cannabis) clubs” and self-growers.

“That alone in the regulated market must be close to 30 million dollars, if we repeal the law, 30 million dollars will end up going to the drug trafficking“The ban only finances organized crime. There are people who want that, but I don’t,” said the official.

“Does anyone really believe that consumption will decrease? The reduction in demand is a wish, which in reality is not being fulfilled in the world. The consumption of all prohibited substances in the world has increased in the last 10 years (by) 23%,” Radió stressed and added: “The goal is regulation of all substances, that is my philosophical conception regarding the subject.”
