Pedro Bordaberry confirmed his return to politics with a list for October

“I have a vocation for service and that is why today I am announcing that I am going to present List 10 to the Senate for the Colorado Party and the Republican coalition. I have always been upfront and honest in what I do. I say what I think and do what I say,” he said.

In this regard, he stressed the need to strengthen the union between the parties of the Multicolor Coalition. “Right now the country needs much more dialogue, more understanding. I will try to contribute to that, with humility and by listening a lot. My campaign will be one of proposals, without distractions on minor issues,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, he mentioned that the presidential candidates of all parties; Andrés Ojeda, Yamandú Orsi, Álvaro Delgado and Pablo Mieres, They already knew about the announcement, as did the president. Luis Lacalle Pou.

Although he did not go into great detail, the former senator and current candidate advanced some premises, establishing the need for unity between the parties against the crime and the corruption. In this regard, he assured that he will present a bill against illicit enrichment and corruption.

He also assured that he will target the drug trafficking, the early childhood and the poverty, as well as the “inefficiency of the State.” “Improve it, make it competitive, make it slimmer. Serve every Uruguayan and not just a few,” he explained.

His criticism of the Coalition

When asked about the mandate of the Multicolor Coalition, The senatorial candidate highlighted some virtues, but also some flaws. “A coalition does not do everything right or everything wrong. This government and coalition did a spectacular job of handling the pandemic. I think that in terms of macroeconomic successes, it was very good,” he stressed.

“There are other areas that have not progressed as I would like: international integration is one. There is a big need to work on that. And there are other areas where we are better off, but not enough. I see a lack of hope among Uruguayans in terms of security. This government did things well, but there are things to improve. Like the Frente Amplio government,” he commented.
