This Tuesday at the Executive Tower, the president and the Foreign Minister Omar Paganini They met with Chinese representatives to advance economic integration between both nations and with the Uruguayan objective of reaching a free trade agreement.
Over the past decade, China It positioned itself as the main trading partner of Uruguayaccounting for more than 20% of total exports and reaching a record of $4.457 billion in 2022.
Liu Jianchao, who is the highest authority of the CCP in regards to foreign relations, highlighted the excellent state of the bilateral relationship, and the step that was taken towards a Comprehensive Strategic Alliance between the two countries in November last year, during the President’s State Mission Lacalle Pou in Beijing.
In this regard, the Chinese minister welcomed the new scenario of cooperation and the deepening of bilateral ties over 36 years of diplomatic relations, beyond the cultural and ideological differences between the two countries.
The vision on protectionism and opportunities with Mercosur
The parties agreed on the defence of multilateralism and the role played by international organisations, and their view against protectionism. At the same time, the importance of institutional stability and building trust based on compliance with long-term agreements and policies was stressed.
On the other hand, Liu Jianchao thanked Uruguay for the invitation to the Mercosur-China Dialogue Mechanism which will take place in Montevideo during the next few days after 6 years of activity, and which will be attended by Hua Chunyingthe Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of China.
