Pablo Mieres described the PIT-CNT plebiscite as a huge death trap for the country

The former Minister of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) and current presidential candidate of the Independent Party (PI), Pablo Mieresdescribed the referendum to reform social security promoted by the PIT-CNT for the general elections in October.

This Sunday, at the launch of the campaign for the general elections, where the National Convention proclaimed the Mieres formula and Monica Botterothe leader of the PI harshly criticized the PIT-CNT and to Broad Front (FA).

In his speech, Mieres said that the FA criticizes the social security reform that was approved last year without having any concrete proposal as an alternative. “They criticize the reform, the law that was voted on last year and they tell us that they are going to call for a great national dialogue, they have no idea what they are going to do with social security,” he stressed.

In this sense, he criticized the “freedom of action” of the party to which the presidential candidate of the FA adhered, Yamandú Orsito decide on a position regarding the plebiscite. “Yamandú (Orsi), freedom of action? Wash your hands of such an outrage as the one being proposed? That is also a lack of honesty,” he stressed.

“That is a lack of honesty with the citizens, not telling the citizens what an outrage it means and saying ‘freedom of action’, because they have three parties, Communist, Socialist and PVP (Party for the Victory of the People) who are in favor of this,” continued the former head of the Executive Branch.

“Now that’s aimlessness”

After the event, Mieres spoke at a press conference about the candidate for vice president of the FA Carolina Cossewho finally showed her opposition to the plebiscite of PIT-CNT due to lack of party consensus, despite the fact that he signed in favor of the ballot.

“When a candidate accuses the government of having no direction, and suddenly it turns out that she signed for a plebiscite, and then when asked she didn’t finish saying whether she agreed or not, and then she says that she’s not going to vote, but doesn’t explain why, that’s really having no direction. That’s just going from here to there, another one who doesn’t tell the people what she thinks,” said the presidential candidate of the PI.

“We must not give up on this, we must work hard to ensure that people do not fall into the trap, because the plebiscite is a huge death trap for the country and for workers and retirees,” he said in this regard.
