The plant of National Breweries (FNC) in Minas Gerais will finally reopen its doors this Monday after the latest setback suffered by negotiations last week regarding the workers who would be reinstated in the company’s activities.
In this way, after several twists and turns that extended the uncertainty around jobs and activity, the Minas de Minas plant FNC will reopen its doors on Monday, a week later than it should have done due to differences between the union and the company.
The reasons for the delay were a disagreement between the company and the union regarding the list of 30 workers who would resume work in the first stage: the union prepared the list by seniority, but the company was not in favor of five of those employees being reinstated in particular due to their personal and professional files.
Given this difference, the reopening scheduled for August 5 was suspended and negotiations were resumed.
What was the conflict at FNC and how was it resolved?
The decision to close had come after the company accused the Uruguayan beer industry of going through competitiveness problemsas well as low productivity and high production costs compared to neighboring countries, all within the context of “tax pressure”, among other problems that were made public through a statement.
Following the intervention of the national government and various meetings, an agreement was reached for the plant to continue operating. Prior to the announcement of its closure, the mining factory had a workforce of 150 workers for the packaging of bottles and cans of the country’s main beer brands.
Among the points stipulated, it was agreed that the import of beer cans may not exceed 30% of the annual production of the Minas plant, in order to continue local production despite the difference in costs with the region.
Following the agreement between the company and the union with the government as mediator – and with the delay in the opening due to disagreements between both parties over the five workers that FNC did not want to reinstate, they reached an agreement new agreement Regarding reinstatements, after several days of new negotiations.
In this way, it was agreed between the parties that the workers whom the company did not want to rehire will not return to the plant in this first stage of 30 employees, so they will remain in extended unemployment insurance along with the other officials who would return on August 19.
