The senator for the National Party (PN), Sergio Botanaaccused the Public Prosecutor of the Court of the Republic, Juan Gomez to act in a political-partisan manner in favor of the Broad Front and even pointed out to the opposition not to give the votes in the Parliament to decide the replacement of the prosecutor.

Gómez returned to the prosecutor’s office on July 22 after a six-month medical leave, where he was replaced by the Court Prosecutor Monica Ferrero, which since the end of July returned to the Narcotics Prosecutor’s OfficeIn this sense, Botana assured that he returned “at any cost to his health to lead a whole movement of accusations in one place and another and another, which really caught well-intentioned people in politics, like those in our party, off guard.”

“The Prosecutor’s Office “It has been politicized for five years,” Gomez said in an interview with Channel 10. “I have no doubt about that, that it has acted in a politicized, partisan manner, permanently, it has done so in each of the episodes, it chooses the prosecutors to obtain the result and one, according to the prosecutor that is appointed, already knows what the result will be,” added the prosecutor.

In this regard, he listed a series of cases in which he believes the prosecutor acted in a partisan manner. “There have been accusations for some time now about Antel Arena, Gas Sayagoall episodes of Ancap. All of these things have been reported to the Prosecutor’s Office and all of them have been delayed, or some of them have been archived because there were no elements or means to arrive at the final, definitive and final proof, when in reality there are other people who are in prison out of conviction, out of mere conviction that they committed some crimes,” he commented.

Gómez assumed the Office of the Prosecutor as a substitute three years ago after the resignation of Jorge Diaz. Currently, a new vote is being held in Parliament for a new incumbent to replace Gómez and, according to Botana, the Frente Amplio is putting obstacles in the way. “The Frente Amplio, which benefits from Gómez’s action and which has no republican spirit, will never have the majority. It is the Frente Amplio that does not have the majority to change the prosecutor, it is not that there is no agreement,” he said.
