Juan Gómez will leave the Court of Justice at the end of the month after accusations of political use

The Court Prosecutor, Juan Gomez, announced that he will leave his post on the 30th of this month after the white senator, Sergio Botana, accused him of having political intentions and acting in favor of the Broad Front.

This week the senator of the National Party, Sergio Botana, He fired at Gómez by saying that his actions favored the opposition. “I have a 49-year career in the Attorney General’s Office. In 49 years there is no record in the archives that I have used public media to speak badly of someone. Look and see. I did not do politics. I do not enter into human misery. I do not act based on partisan political criteria,” he said.

In this regard, he said that he will leave his post on the 30th of this month and that he will not dedicate himself to party politics once his work is finished. “I never asked to be here. I have done so with great dedication to the function. I have given, what I consider, the best I had,” he said and said that he would respond to Botana’s accusations.

Botana’s accusations

This week, the senator commented that Gómez returned from his leave “at the cost of his health to lead a whole movement of accusations in one place and another and another, which really caught well-intentioned people in politics, like those in our party, off guard.”

“The Prosecutor’s Office “It has been politicized for five years,” Gomez said in an interview with Channel 10. “I have no doubt about that, that it has acted in a politicized, partisan manner, permanently, it has done so in each of the episodes, it chooses the prosecutors to obtain the result and one, according to the prosecutor that is appointed, already knows what the result will be,” added the prosecutor.

In this regard, he listed a series of cases in which he believes the prosecutor acted in a partisan manner. “There have been accusations for some time now about Antel Arena, Gas Sayagoall episodes of Ancap. All of these things have been reported to the Prosecutor’s Office and all of them have been delayed, or some of them have been archived because there were no elements or means to arrive at the final, definitive and final proof, when in reality there are other people who are in prison out of conviction, out of mere conviction that they committed some crimes,” he commented.

Gómez assumed the Office of the Prosecutor as a substitute three years ago after the resignation of Jorge Diaz. Currently, a new vote is being held in Parliament for a new incumbent to replace Gómez and, according to Botana, the Frente Amplio is putting obstacles in the way. “The Frente Amplio, which benefits from Gómez’s actions and which has no republican spirit, will never have the majority. It is the Frente Amplio that does not have the majority to change the prosecutor, it is not that there is no agreement,” he said.
