The objective of Idere
From the Udelar they specified that the Idere is the result of an accumulation of years of work that has as direct antecedents an index calculated for Chili, with the aim of becoming a useful tool to have “a more comprehensive conception of a phenomenon as complex, changing and polysemic as regional development.”
“Although it is not possible to reduce the complexity of development to a number, Idere can inform us at the departmental level about the historical trajectories, the emerging trends and changes in direction, as well as giving warning or alert signals and helping to identify challenges and opportunities,” the authors insisted.
Regarding their contribution, they considered that it aims to “contribute with a robust input, from the academy, to a discussion on the state of development in the country’s departments, with the objective of placing the territorial dimension of the development in a place of relevance on the public agenda.”
