Year-on-year revenue for services falls in the second quarter

The National Chamber of Commerce and Services (CNCS) disclosed his Quarterly Activity Surveywhere it has been delving deeper into data linked to the services sector, adding them to the more traditional data linked to retail sales of goods.

Sales in the service sector fell by 1.7% year-on-year in real terms. This is the result of 74 companies surveyed, with 93 premises and employing some 1,703 workers. According to the Chamber’s survey, only 35% of these companies reported an increase in turnover.

The sectors that fell most sharply They were travel agencies, advertising agencies and the hotel billingwith all three categories falling by around 7.5%. There was also a drop in the actual turnover of the real estate which fell 4.8% year-on-year in the second quarter.

Restaurants and confectioneries had a very slight increase of 0.5%. The only item that shows a strong increase in its year-on-year turnover is the security serviceswhich increased by 4.8% year-on-year. This should not be a big surprise.

The survey is full of interesting details in the different sectors. In the case of hotels, it mainly covers three and four star hotels. In three star hotels the average rate barely rose 2 dollars per night in the interannual period, from 66 to 68. Even so, the occupancy rate fell from 45 to 40%. In the case of four star hotels the rate rose more sharply, going from 84 to 100 dollars, but there was a sharp drop in occupancy, which went from 50 to 20%.
