The Pentagon delegation examined the needs of Ukraine in air defense systems

The US military delegation during a recent visit to Ukraine studied its needs for air defense (air defense) assets. This was announced by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby on Monday, January 10.

“They, roughly speaking, looked at air defense and missile defense, as I understand it … They looked and consulted with the Ukrainians about how they see their defense needs,” he said at a briefing, the record of which is available on the department’s page in Twitter.

When asked whether the possibility of supplying Stinger portable anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine is on the agenda, a representative of the Ministry of Defense declined to answer.

On January 4, John Kirby said that an increase in NATO’s presence in Europe is possible subject to the deterioration of the situation around Ukraine, as well as relevant requests from the members of the alliance and allies, but at the moment there are no such conditions.

On the same day it became known that an extraordinary meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers would take place on January 7. It was noted that “the ministers will discuss the concentration of Russian forces in and around Ukraine and broader issues of European security.”

According to Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko, by holding an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of the alliance, NATO is trying to raise tensions around the internal Ukrainian conflict.
