Psaki called the consultations between the Russian Federation and the United States in Geneva frank

The consultations between Russia and the United States on security assurances were frank. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki spoke about this on Monday, January 10.

“Of course, these negotiations were frank and straightforward,” Psaki said at a regular briefing, the transcript of the speech was posted on the White House page in Twitter.

The spokeswoman added that Russia could “take the path of diplomacy” and “return 100,000 troops currently on the border (with Ukraine) to their barracks.” According to Psaki, Russia has every opportunity and strength to de-escalate the situation on the border.

The talks between Russia and the United States on security guarantees ended in Geneva on January 10 and lasted approximately 7.5 hours. Discussions were held at the US Permanent Mission in Geneva in a format closed to the press.

The day before, a preliminary meeting took place in the format of a working dinner. Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov said that the conversation was difficult, but businesslike. The diplomat stressed that Moscow is ready to listen to the US position, but a constructive dialogue is possible only in the context of revising the decisions of the Budapest summit on the future of Ukraine and Georgia in NATO.

Earlier Ryabkov stated that the Russian Federation was going to the meeting “not with outstretched hand,” the Russian side had a “clearly formulated task” that it would solve on its own terms.
