PIT-CNT launches its campaign for the social security plebiscite

He PIT-CNT will begin his campaign in search of the votes necessary for the approval of the plebiscite against social security reform that the government implemented in Uruguay. In this sense, Monday will be the first “day of agitation” to spread the proposal promoted by the union and achieve a “huge and heroic popular victory.”

While the candidates of the government coalition They campaign heavily supported by the rejection of the plebiscite for pension reform and the formula of Broad Front disassociated himself from any action in favor of the initiative, PIT-CNT is planning to start the campaign for a “Yes” vote on Monday, in preparation for October 27.

The activity will be a “day of agitation” that will include the deployment of hundreds of tables throughout the country, where activists will present the arguments behind the constitutional reform promoted by the union, summarized under the slogan “vote for a better retirement.”

“It was clear that the campaign had begun,” said the president of the PIT-CNT, Marcelo Abdala, at a training workshop held last week, referring to the ruling party’s decision to coordinate its actions to oppose the proposed reform and thus defend the changes implemented by the current government to the pension system.

In this sense, Abdala defined them as the “Holy Alliance” of detractors to the possibility that “the people say ‘Yes’ to the precautionary measures” provided for by the popular consultation, achieved through the more than 400,000 signatures collected for its authorization by the Electoral Court.

Telling the truth, “without bogeymen and without fear”

In the workshop, some were coordinated and defined specific messages that activists will be spreading starting on Monday, under the premise of moving forward “with the truth, without bogeymen and without fear,” pointing out that the detractors of the plebiscite are seeking to scare citizens into choosing not to vote for the reform.

Among those messages, it was noted that tying minimum pensions to National Minimum Wage This would translate into an increase of around 3,500 pesos for more than 300,000 retirees. On the other hand, it will be insisted that the mixed system is “expensive, inefficient and insecure”, while eight out of ten members of the AFAP They would charge more if they did it just for the Social Security Bank (BPS).

With the latest polls giving him between 38% and 41% of voting intention, Abdala expressed confidence that in the coming months he can achieve a “huge and heroic popular victory in October,” for which he needs to gather more than 50% of popular support.
