The national convention of the new slogan approved abstention from participating in the October elections, despite winning the internal elections.
The brand new motto Republican Coalition officially defined that it will not participate in the general elections in October, but that it will do so in the departmental 2025after the electoral convention approved abstention for the national elections and participation in the departments of Montevideo, Cannelloni and Leapwhere the governs Broad Front (FA).

Lema, who is emerging as a candidate for mayor of Montevideo for the governing alliance, stressed that he will make “every effort” to achieve “a political project” for change that “channels” the “disgust” that Montevideo residents have with the succession of FA governments.
“We cannot bear this administration any longer, we cannot bear a slow city, a sad city, a dirty city, with a large number of Montevideo residents in the exclusion zone,” he said in this regard.

For its part, the Deputy Secretary of the PC, Gustavo Ostaconfirmed that the political force will present a candidate for the Montevideo City Hall (IM) with the aim of “boosting” the electoral tool of the ruling party.
“What is the alternative? The parties that have governed these past five years in coalition and successfully,” explained Osta, noting that they will try to “transfer that experience” to the departmental level.
“Common ground is being reached to better manage public funds, to better manage a Municipality (of which) the people of Montevideo need a refreshment and to see other options for government management,” said the former vice president of the State Railways Administration (AFE).
