The 69-year-old actor is yet to release his latest works with Ridley Scott, Spike Lee and Antoine Fuqua.
Denzel Washingtonone of the great actors in activity, will turn 70 next December. A few weeks before, on November 15, he will arrive in theaters playing Macrinus in Gladiator IIthe long-awaited sequel directed by Ridley ScottUnfortunately, this could be one of the last times we have the chance to see the American actor in a new role.
Washington revealed in a recent interview with Empire that she has begun to cut back on her acting gigs because she’s finding it increasingly difficult to find roles she’s interested in playing among the offers she’s receiving. “I have very few films left to make that spark my interest”explains the actor.
“I need to feel inspired by the director, and that’s what happened with Ridley. [Scott]”he says of joining Gladiator II. Of course, it surely also helped that Washington and Scott had already worked together successfully in the past, on the thriller American Gangster (2007), as it seems that the actor is prioritizing collaborating again with old accomplices.

After Gladiator IIWashington has one more film shot and another in pre-production. He has already finished the remake of Heaven and Hell of Akira Kurosawa that has directed Spike Lee in what will be their fifth film together; and preparations are still underway for their sixth collaboration with Antoine Fuqua in an epic tale where he will play the Carthaginian warrior Hannibal.
With two Oscars under his belt (for Times of glory -1989- and by Training Day -2001-) and a total of nine nominations as an actor, the recognition of Denzel Washington’s talent by the Hollywood industry is beyond doubt. Perhaps the current franchise landscape is not stimulating for a performer of his category.
