The accident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on the B147, Braunauer Landesstraße, in the community of Helpfau-Uttendorf. A 17-year-old driver drove his car from Uttendorf in the direction of Burgkirchen. His 14-year-old sister sat in the passenger seat. Both students from the Braunau district were on their way to school when the truck driver driving in front of them braked his truck to a standstill for an unknown reason. Then the truck driver drove on.
The 17-year-old initiated an emergency stop. The 18-year-old driver from the Braunau district, who was following him, was unable to stop his car in time and hit the car in front. The 17-year-old and his 14-year-old sister were injured to an indefinite degree.
After the first aid, the two injured were taken to hospital by the ambulance. The 18-year-old was uninjured in the accident. Both vehicles were totaled.
