The opposition denounced judicial harassment against Edmundo González Urrutia

The opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform, accused the government of Nicolás Maduro of considering “it a crime to have obtained 8 million votes.”

The Venezuelan opposition electoral coalition Democratic Unitary Platform reported this Tuesday a “judicial harassment” by the government of Nicolas Maduro against his candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutiaand assured that the State “considers it a crime that he obtained 8 million votes.”

Following the elections held on July 28 in which the National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Nicolás Maduro the winner, and the subsequent accusations of fraud by the opposition, Venezuelan Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated a criminal investigation against González Urrutia for the alleged crimes of “usurpation of functions” and “forging of public document”which could lead to a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
