The collection grew by 6.6% year-on-year in real terms in July, for a total of 54.472 billion pesos, according to the latest report from the General Tax Directorate (DGI), which also showed an improvement of 12.4% at current prices compared to the 48,447 million of the same month in 2023.
The positive balance was due to the strong influence of the perception of VAT, Although there were also increases in the Imesi, the Tax on Income from Economic Activities (IRAE) and the Personal Income Tax (IRPF).
Meanwhile, the DGI’s monthly report also shows that the net collection, discounting the return of taxes, reached 43.954 billion pesos in July, an improvement in real terms of 2.6% compared to the same month last year.
In the cumulative total for the last 12 months, gross revenue is at a similar level to that of 2023, despite registering a fall of 0.2%.

The importance of VAT collection
Beyond the studies that speak of alleged inefficiency, the collection of the VAT increased by 7% in real terms last month and totaled 27.268 billion pesos. Thus, it represented 50.1% of the total, practically the same as the three remaining taxes together.
The increase may be associated with a lower consumption diversion towards Argentina, within the framework of the minor price gap compared to the neighboring country, where the blue dollar It became more expensive since July of last year and the price was reduced exchange rate difference with Uruguay.
In turn, the perception of Imesi grew by 14.3% in July, for a total of 4.514 billion pesos and an impact of 8.3% in the total, while that of IRAE was 6.808 billion pesos, an increase of 3.7% year-on-year and a share of 12.5% of the total.
Finally, the collection of the Personal Income Tax reached 9.024 billion pesos, which represents an improvement in real terms of 3.5% compared to July of last year and an importance in total gross collection of 16.6%.
