The French TV channel France Télévisions showed a map showing Crimea as part of the Russian Federation.
In the plot dedicated to the events of 2014, Crimea was marked with the same color as Ukraine, and then its color was changed to the one that designated the territory of the Russian Federation.
The territories of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) are allocated separately.
An employee of the Ukrainian Embassy in France said that she talked to the TV channel and received an explanation.
“I received apologies, explanations and assurances that this situation will not happen again: the graphic contractor made a technical mistake (there is no shading of the annexed Crimea and an indication of non-recognition of the annexation by the international community), but this in no way reflects the position of the TV channel in relation to the Ukrainian Crimea,” the message is quoted as saying Embassy employees, the site “Crimea.Realii” (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation).
Earlier, on December 17, French MEP Thierry Mariani said that Crimea cannot be called an occupied territory, since the majority of residents were in favor of joining Russia. According to him, the absence of a wave of Crimean migrants to Ukraine, as is often the case during the military seizure of territory, also indicates the legal inclusion of the peninsula into the Russian Federation.
On September 19, the ex-head of the French delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Michel Voisin expressed hope for the earliest recognition of the Russian status of Crimea by Paris.
Crimea returned to the Russian Federation following the results of the 2014 referendum. 96.77% of the region’s residents and 95.6% of the voters of Sevastopol voted for the accession. The procedure was carried out in accordance with international law. Meanwhile, Kiev considers the peninsula to be its temporarily occupied territory. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the issue of the subject’s ownership is closed forever.
