Shopping tour now with stamps, locks and security

Anyone who has been going on a shopping tour since Tuesday, will be approached in almost every store. Instead of the familiar “May I help you?” but there is a request – namely to submit the 2G proof. This must now also be checked in retail. The methods are very different, as a tour of the federal capital Vienna has shown.

You rely on stamps, locks or “real” security. Vienna. At first glance, the shopping experience is no different than before. Even if the rush on Mariahilfer Straße or in the shopping center at Westbahnhof was limited in the morning. That should be due to the time, but also to the lack of tourists and the home office. Only in front of a clothing store that promises rock-bottom prices did a small crowd gather.

That something has changed today becomes clear at the latest when you enter a shop. For example, if you want to inspect shoes in the shopping center at the train station, you notice relatively quickly that the saleswoman at the entrance is not only looking for customers – but also checks the visitor’s corona status.

This is more obvious at a neighboring electronics dealer. Here one relies on barrier tapes and a colleague standing in front of the shop. It is immediately clear that this is a kind of entrance lock. This is even clearer for a bookstore chain. There, security employees in yellow safety vests have been hired to carry out the 2G controls.

At City-Ikea, a board in front of the entrance draws attention to the fact that you will be examined immediately. “Please have your 2G proof ready” is the usual jovial message. The poster also states that photo ID is required. If you then enter the furniture store, the evidence is scanned. This is usually not the case otherwise, in other shops you are often content with a look at the Green Pass or a printout.

A frequent variant in terms of entry situation is a high table with a disinfection option and employees posted there who ask for proof. At the entrance, a textile chain also indicates that you should “automatically” show the corresponding confirmation if possible – so you should go looking for sales staff yourself. In some shops on the “Mahü” only the 2G obligation is pointed out and no contact is made at the entrance or in the sales room. There must then be checked at the cash desk.

In the Gerngross you are greeted by a kind of reception on the ground floor, where you are informed that you can – voluntarily – pick up a stamp. If you show your proof, the back of the hand is decorated with a small, not clearly recognizable motif. In the center itself, when you look around the shops, you will be approached and asked for the 2G certificate. All you have to do is show the stamp.

While the duty of inspection in retail should be largely known, the knowledge of the mask requirement in the open air, which has also been in effect today, is apparently still rather poor. On Tuesday, many passers-by on Mariahilfer Strasse were in any case without an appropriate face mask.
