Linz nights are getting hotter

The number of hot days in Upper Austria is increasing.

Drought in the central region. Heavy thunderstorms in the upper Innviertel. The hottest August in recorded history. The effects of the climate crisis are clearly noticeable in Upper Austria. For this reason, Stefan Kaineder (Greens) invited people to a press conference at which a climate balance sheet for this summer was drawn up.

Tropical nights keep Linz busy

Residents of urban areas are particularly affected by the effects of the climate crisis. Tropical nights, nights in which the temperature never drops below 20 degrees, are problematic. This phenomenon was almost non-existent in the 1960s to 1990s, with one night per year. This year, the city of Linz has already recorded 15 such nights. But that’s no comparison to Vienna’s city center, with 41 tropical nights.
