Belarus calls Polish recording of negotiations with Ryanair pilot editing

The recording of the negotiations between the Belarusian dispatcher and the pilot of the Ryanair aircraft, circulated by Poland, has signs of installation. This statement was made by the deputy head of the Minsk Investigative Committee of Belarus Andrei Motolko on Tuesday, January 11.

“The body of the preliminary investigation appointed a phonoscopic examination. According to the conclusion of the expert of the State Committee of Forensic Expertise, in the specified recording there are areas with signs of editing, characteristic of combining several previously recorded phonograms, which indicates signs of modification and digital processing of the sound recording, ”he said in an interview with ONT TV channel.

So, the Polish side argued that the third voice on the recording, in addition to the pilot and the dispatcher, belonged to an employee of the KGB of Belarus. While he was actually the head of flights of the Minsk regional dispatch center Yevgeny Tsyganov: due to the emerging emergency situation, he joined the dispatcher’s work.

Tsyganov himself added that during the negotiations with the pilot, there were only five people in the room.

On May 23, 2021, the Ryanair liner urgently landed in Minsk due to a message about mining, which was not subsequently confirmed. On board the liner was the ex-chief editor of the NEXTA Telegram channel recognized in Belarus as extremist, Roman Protasevich. After the plane landed, the blogger and his companion, Russian woman Sofia Sapega, were detained.

On May 24, amid criticism of Minsk by the West, the European Union made a political decision to ban Belarusian airlines from flying to the EU. In addition, many airlines have begun to avoid flying in the airspace of Belarus.

On May 25, the Aviation Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus published a full transcript of the record of the dispatcher’s negotiations with the pilot of the Ryanair aircraft. It was clarified that the aircraft crew several times tried to find out about the source of information about the mining of the aircraft.
