Axel Kicillof went to the Supreme Court against the Nation for the elimination of the SUBE Network

The Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicilloffiled an appeal for protection on Tuesday before the Supreme Court of Justice against the national government for the changes in the Single Electronic Ticket System (SUBE) driven by the administration of Javier Milei.

The news had been anticipated by Kicillof himself, who commented on his social networks that he would advance along the same path as he did with the claims made before the Supreme Court for compensation. in the face of the non-transfer of the pension system, the cuts to the National Teacher Incentive Fund (FONID), the Inland Transportation Compensation Fund and the Fiscal Strengthening Fund (FOFOFI).

In the presentation, the Buenos Aires administration claims to the Supreme Court that “order the National State to refrain from innovating in terms of the fare compensation it has been financing, related to the Integrated Ticket System, implemented in public passenger transportation means of the AMBA of provincial and municipal jurisdiction.”

The governor had previously described the government’s measure as “arbitrary and illegal.” “The national Executive has laws, budgets and allocations for this purpose and taxes that are collected to cover this expenditure. The Province does not have the legal tools to do so,” he commented.

Along these lines, Kicillof pointed out that, between January and August, the Province of Buenos Aires “invested more than $454,000 million in the Tariff Compensation policies of AMBA and the Interior; River Transport and Special Educational Ticket” and that “only in the last month the Province allocated $79,000 million to these subsidies.”

“The PBA covers 100% of the subsidies to the provincial bus lines of AMBA for the tariff compensation of 262 lines”he explained on his social networks, while maintaining that “after the national Government eliminated the Transport Compensation Fund, we increased by 110% the budget assigned for subsidies, which covers part of the ticket for users of inland cities.”

Finally, the leader of the Union for the Fatherland (UP) said that “the most affected by this unilateral decision are the people of Buenos Aires who live in the second and third belts of the suburbs and use more than one bus to go to work every day.”

“This is not a measure that punishes a governor, it punishes those who live further away and have fewer resources,” he concluded.

Agreement between City and Nation

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the head of the City Government, Jorge Macri, met with President Javier Milei at the Casa Rosada, with whom he signed the agreement for the transfer of the buses. The authorities of the city promised to disburse funds to avoid, at least for now, the price of the ticket from skyrocketing.

The meeting took place after the Liberal administration announced that these lines would no longer receive subsidies from the National State. The President and the mayor of Buenos Aires sealed the transfer agreement in a brief meeting.

The Buenos Aires City government explained that the agreement will allow for the 50 and 75% discounts to be maintained on travel combinations on these lines within two hours of the start of the first trip.

For his part, Macri distanced himself from Governor Axel Kicillof’s decision by highlighting that maintaining the integrated tariff represents “an important difference” between both jurisdictions.

“It is an important difference between what we are doing and what the province is doing. We are subsidizing the rate, but also maintaining the integrated rate, so there is no discrimination or effects if they come to the city of Buenos Aires,” sentenced
