Odessa authorities began major repairs in Zhvanetsky’s apartment

Overhaul began in the apartment of the satirist Mikhail Zhvanetsky in Odessa, where a museum will be created. This is stated on January 11 in a message on the website of the city hall.

“On January 11, the head of the city of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, held a visiting meeting, during which a discussion was held on the overhaul of the apartment where the honorary citizen of Odessa, the satirist Mikhail Mikhailovich Zhvanetsky lived and worked,” the Odessa authorities noted.

Before the start of the renovation in the apartment at 133 on Staroportofrankovskaya Street, photo and video recording of the situation was carried out in order to recreate it in its authentic form. Roofing is being replaced, walls and foundations are being strengthened.

Then the specialists will replace the ceilings, communications, and carry out the finishing. Furniture, window frames and doors will also be restored.

“On the second floor, expositions will be organized in the rooms, and on the first floor it is planned to create a souvenir shop. All work is carried out with the consent and under the guidance of the wife of the satirist Natalia Zhvanetskaya, ”the Odessa mayor’s office said.

The apartment museum will be open for the tourist season. Repairs are carried out for extrabudgetary funds.

The decision to create the Odessa Municipal Museum-Apartment of Mikhail Zhvanetsky was made by the deputies of the City Council on July 28, 2021.

Mikhail Zhvanetsky died on November 6, 2020 at the age of 87 after a long illness. He was People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, People’s Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the President of Russia Prize. Politicians, colleagues, and public figures expressed their condolences to the relatives of the artist. He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow.
