A technical defect may have been the source of ignition for the major fire in a farmhouse on Tuesday in Eggerding. That was the result of the investigation by the fire prevention office in Linz and a district investigator yesterday morning.
The fire broke out around 10 p.m. on Tuesday evening. According to Alois Haslinger, head of operations at the Eggerding volunteer fire brigade, a neighbor noticed the fire: “The local resident saw the flames from home and informed us immediately.” When the fire brigade arrived, the farmhouse was already on fire.
“Fortunately, no people were in danger in the fire because the house is currently unoccupied,” says Haslinger. Seven fire brigades from the area fought the flames until 11:55 p.m., but the building – partly made of wood – burned down completely. “The adjoining buildings are already very close to the farmhouse, but we were able to prevent the flames from spreading to them,” says the head of operations.
“Piggy”
Some 300 pigs, which were housed in the adjacent farm wing, were also lucky in the misfortune. “The stable and the pigs that were housed there remained completely intact in the fire,” says Haslinger. The fire ruins may not be entered because of the considerable risk of collapse.
