San Pablo reduces the capacity of football matches to 70% and recommends a reduction in events by Òmicron

The decision was reported at a press conference by the governor of São Paulo, Joao Doria, due to the progress of 99% of hospitalizations in nursing and 59% in intensive care that has been registered in São Paulo since the first day of 2022.

With 46 million inhabitants, São Paulo is the state with the most cases and infections in the country and is also home to the largest passenger hub in South America, Guarulhos International Airport.

“In the case of soccer, we have decided to limit the occupation of the public to 70 percent, with proof of vaccination against Covid-19, for the entry of people to the São Paulo championship matches that begins on January 23,” said Doria in the Palacio de los Bandeirantes, the seat of government.

Presidential candidate for the October elections by the Brazilian Social Democracy Party, Doria issued a recommendation and not a decree to the municipalities so that all events with the public have an occupancy of no more than 70% but each decision will depend on the mayors.

The decision will depend on the epidemiological situation in each municipality.

On the other hand, the coordinator of the scientific committee of São Paulo, the doctor and former Vice Minister of Health of Jair Bolsonaro, Joao Gabbardo, announced the mandatory use of chinstraps in open and closed spaces until March 31, 2022.

Before Ómicron, San Pablo’s official programming included removing the mandatory use of the chinstrap on December 31.

The São Paulo Health Secretary, Jean Gorinchteyn, explained for his part that most of the hospitalizations correspond to the infirmary and not to the intensive care units and that the majority of those hospitalized with people with one dose or none.

“At the peak of the first wave of 2020 we had an average of 6,500 patients in intensive care and in the second wave 13,150 patients. Today we have an average of 1,300 hospitalized, 10 percent. This shows the efficacy of the vaccine, with less serious patients and with less time of hospitalization, “he explained.

The official indicated that hospital occupancy in the state of São Paulo is 39 percent, at the lowest levels since the pandemic began.

On the other hand, Governor Doria announced the distribution of 2 million rapid tests for the public Health network, within the framework of the population’s claims for taking Covid-19 tests after the Christmas and New Year parties, something that it has exhausted the capacity of pharmacies.
