The United States Embassy in Ukraine has issued a warning to US citizens of the United States about the risks of travel to the country. This became known on Wednesday, January 12.
“The State Department continues to advise US citizens to reconsider travel to Ukraine due to increased threats from Russia,” the embassy’s website said in a statement.
The diplomatic department also warned its citizens in Ukraine that “further military actions by Russia” would significantly affect the embassy’s ability to provide consular services. This includes assistance with the evacuation.
On January 12, the deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Igor Zhovkva, said that the concentration of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border had not decreased. He noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine “will be ready to fight back” in case of aggravation of the current situation, but added that he himself hopes for a diplomatic solution.
On the same day, the head of the press service of the US State Department, Ned Price, said that Washington did not see any signs of de-escalation of the situation around Ukraine. At the same time, according to him, “de-escalation can happen even tomorrow, even on Friday.”
