This Tuesday, INDEC reported that, in the sixth month of the year, the Synthetic Indicator of Public Services (ISSP) contracted by 2.9% compared to May. In year-on-year terms, the decline was 4.2%

This decline was mainly generated by the electricity, gas and water division, the second with the greatest impact on the ISSP. It is worth remembering that in June the manufacturing industry suffered its second worst year-on-year drop since the pandemic, in a context of strong recession, to which was added the peculiarity that there were fewer working days than usual for long holidays.
Consequently, the economic crisis is a factor that depresses energy demand. In addition, tariff increases They also put a brake on consumption.
The other two monthly declines were observed in the mail services (-13.3%) and the payment of tolls (-0.6%). Meanwhile, the telephonywhich is the division with the greatest weighting in the general index, remained unchanged compared to May.
On the contrary, improvements were observed in the use of cargo transport (+0.1%), in the waste collection reported by CEAMSE (+1%) and in the passenger transport (+1.4%), where urban groups represent the majority.
How does INDEC measure the demand for electricity, gas and water?
- The demand for electric energy It includes the electrical energy of the National Interconnected System destined for the domestic market plus the amount of self-generated and cogenerated electrical energy for self-consumption. The unit of measurement is expressed in GWh.
- In parallel, the natural gas consumption It includes the total gas delivered to the domestic market to end users with residential, industrial, power generation and other end users. It excludes consumption in the field, injection into formation, gas retained in the plant, vented gas, consumption by transporters and losses. The unit of measurement is expressed in thousands of m3.
- Finally, the water delivered to the network It includes the total flow of water produced in plants and wells delivered to the network (including losses in the distribution stage) by the company Agua y Saneamientos Argentinos SA (AYSA). The unit of measurement is expressed in m3.
