In Lower Austria, fire departments have been called out to 160 operations since Friday evening. These were mainly alarms about storm damage, said Klaus Stebal, spokesman for the regional command, in response to an APA query on Saturday morning. The situation has “intensified,” he reported. Mobile flood protection has been set up in several communities, such as in the Wachau. The “peak” in the water levels is expected to occur mostly overnight into Monday, said Stebal.

Floods are expected to occur on the Danube once every 30 years. Floods are expected to occur on the Kamp once every 100 years. The first evacuations were already taking place in some communities on Friday evening. Garden settlements and second homes were affected.
“Things will get worse,” said Stebal, especially along the Kamp. Two disaster relief trains have been called in: one from the Hollabrunn district is to protect the Langenlois substation (Krems-Land district). Another from the Krems district is supporting the fire brigades along the Kamp.

“We are constantly monitoring the situation,” the fire station is manned throughout, reported Christoph Firlinger, commander of the FF Hadersdorf am Kamp (Krems-Land district). The river has overflowed its banks in low-lying areas. On Friday, holiday homes located directly on the Kamp were evacuated. According to Firlinger, the B35 between Hadersdorf and the district of Weinstraße in the direction of Krems was closed due to flooding. The alternative route goes via Langenlois.
