The big winners at FICBA were “Norita”, the documentary about Nora Cortiñas produced by Jane Fonda, and the Brazilian film “Os sapos”, by director Clara Lihhart.
The second edition of the La Plata Film Festival ended this weekend. Its official name is the Buenos Aires Province International Film Festival, since One of its main purposes is to encourage the development of audiovisual activity in Buenos Aires. All the performances, 197 in total, were entirely free, and without a doubt the majority of the award-winning titles.

The older ones were for “The Toads” (Clara Linhart)Brazil) and “Norita” (Jayson McNamara and Andrea TortoneseUSA-Argentina), on Nora Cortinasa documentary that has Jane Fonda as co-producer. In detail, in the competition for fictional features, the Brazilian companies were awarded “The Toads” (Best Film) and “City/Countryside” (Actress Fernanda Vianna), the Portuguese “Hands in the fire”, variant of a novel by Henry James (address Margaret Gilphotography Acacia de Almeida), the Peruvian “The Huatrila” (Special Jury Prize, revelation Fernando Moya), the Argentines “More people die on Sundays” (script Iair Said) and “I had the heart” (actor Oliver Kolkermusic Lisandro Adrover) and the Mexicans “Anna & Dante” (revelation Catherine Avila) and “The Muleteer” (art, costume and sound design).


A curiosity: Lupita Peckinpahco-costume designer for “The Muleteer”is the daughter of the remembered poet of violence Sam Peckinpahmaestro, and, among other titles, he was able to shine in the Mexican-Argentine co-production “Tlatelolco, summer of 68”. For its part Lena Esquenazico-sound designer of “The Muleteer”was born in Cuba, studied in Russia, lives in Mexico and has also worked as a sound engineer and teacher (Fuc) in Argentina.
Returning to Ficpba, in the international documentary category it won “Norita” (first prize), had a Special Mention “Once upon a time there was a magician” (Oscar Frenkel and Salomé Jury)Argentina, dedicated to Leonardo Favio), and the rest went to Syria (Anas Zawahari, “My memory is full of ghosts”), Netherlands (“Gerlach”portrait of a farmer), Brazil (“Hearsayer”) and Denmark (“A place in the sun”). The best shorts came from Switzerland, Spain, Mexico, Brazil and even the Philippines and Singapore.
Finally, in the Buenos Aires Long Section, the winners were “Combo 15” (Raul Perrone)Ituzaingo), “Bottom Sea” (Oriana Castro(Mar del Plata) “Pamela, a woman with her own identity” (Carrasco and MuchiutChivilcoy), “The Agronomist” (Martin Turnes)Marcos Paz) and “Mixtape. “The Pampa” (Andrés Di TellaChascomús). The best short, “Asterion” (Eduardo AlvarezLa Matanza). In addition, three first works in development received a $500,000 boost each. They come respectively from San Isidro, Mar del Plata and Tandil, and with the wind in their favour in one or two years they will be competing in the next Ficpba.
