The White House has nothing to say yet about the possibility of a meeting between US and Russian Presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin. This was stated by the official representative of the American department, Jen Psaki, on Thursday, January 13.
“I have nothing to predict for you on this front,” a spokeswoman said at a briefing, a recording of which is available on the White House page at Twitter.
She added that now, after the talks, “people are leaving for their capitals.”
“We will know more in the coming days,” Psaki said.
When asked by a journalist about any “deadlines for Moscow” to de-escalate the situation around Ukraine, the representative of the White House did not answer.
“I’m not going to set any deadlines from here. Ultimately, the choice is really theirs. Are they going to continue with the invasion of Ukraine? If so, then there will be serious consequences, economic consequences that will be devastating to the economy, ”said Jen Psaki.
On January 12, the meeting of the Russia-NATO Council ended in Brussels. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the North Atlantic Alliance. Negotiations began at 10 am local time (12:00 Moscow time). The meeting lasted longer than planned – more than four hours.
Negotiations on security guarantees took place in three stages. On January 10, a meeting of the Russian and US delegations took place in Geneva. On January 12, a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council was held in Brussels, and on January 13, consultations were held at the Vienna site of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
On January 13, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova indicated that the Ukrainian authorities were trying to make Russia a party to the conflict in the southeast of the country in order to justify their inaction to resolve the situation.
