A varied program and numerous rides await market visitors at this year’s autumn market at the Urfahraner fairgrounds. That’s why it’s quite loud at today’s press conference, the construction work is still in full swing. “That’s part of it. It’s exciting to see how the market is growing and everything that’s behind it,” says Linz City Councilor Doris Lang-Mayerhofer (VP).

Due to the heavy rainfall last week, a brief halt to construction work was necessary, but fortunately the Danube did not overflow its banks in the area of the fairgrounds. “Now we have the go-ahead again and work is continuing under a little more time pressure,” says Peter Illchmann, who, as the division director for building management and civil engineering for the city of Linz, is also responsible for the flood protection measures. “But we did not reach the critical water levels and got off lightly.”
Well-known and new rides at “Urfix”
Despite the unplanned delays, the Urfahraner fair will start on time on September 28, promises market representative Lang-Mayerhofer. This is thanks in particular to the flexibility of the exhibitors. “As soon as the sun came back, we continued with the setup,” confirms Heinrich Straßmeier, who runs the family show business in the fourth generation. The Straßmeier Autodrom has been represented at every “Urfix” since the 19th century – with the exception of the two Corona years – and is therefore a real institution. The ticket for a ride costs 4 euros, as in the spring.
