Italy’s police protest against pink masks: “Damage to reputation”

These masks were delivered to the police, but also to public administration, schools and hospitals. The SAP police union protested, claiming pink masks would damage the image of security forces.

The union described the mask delivery as “unusual”. Especially at a time “with growing aversion to the security forces” it was necessary to show “soberness and respect for the uniform”.

According to the union, the problem does not arise from prejudice against the color pink, but from the fact that the masks should match the uniform. SAP therefore demanded that masks only be delivered in white, black or blue, as reported by the Milan daily “Corriere della Sera” (Friday edition).

In the past few days, Italy has made FFP2 masks compulsory in closed rooms and on public transport. The FFP2 masks are sold in stores at a price of 0.75 cents per mask.
