But with second place, the world champion limited the damage on the way to his fourth title. Verstappen’s fiercest rival Lando Norris was unchallenged on the Marina Bay Street Circuit, and the McLaren driver effortlessly took his third GP victory. For the first time, the Singapore Grand Prix on the narrow circuit ran without any major scenes at the start, without any accidents and without a safety car. But Norris won here for the first time. The Brit is steadily closing in on Verstappen. The 24-year-old has six races and three sprints to make up the remaining 52 points behind the world championship leader. In the constructors’ championship, McLaren already seems to be on the way, with a 41-point lead over Red Bull Racing and the better car.

“It’s like being in a sauna”
The hot and humid conditions in Singapore, despite the late evening hour, were, as always, a great challenge. “It’s like being in a sauna,” radioed Mercedes driver George Russell. His compatriot Norris lost concentration a few times and twice encountered the boundary wall – ultimately without consequences. “It was a great race. Some of my decisions were too close, I had a few small moments in the middle of the race,” explained the World Championship runner-up, whose team urged him to “pay full attention.”
